Take the East-West MRT to City Hall. Walk to the Merlion, snap the skyline, and return. Total: ~2 hours outside airport.
Free Singapore Tour (SIA)
Singapore Airlines offers a free 2.5-hour city tour for transit passengers. Book at the Free Singapore Tour counter in T2 or T3.
Chinatown & Buddha Tooth Relic Temple
Vibrant streets, hawker centre, and a stunning Buddhist temple. Easy MRT ride on the North-East line. Allow 90 min.
Gardens by the Bay
The Supertree Grove is free to walk at ground level. The Cloud Forest dome charges entry. Spectacular at dusk. Allow 2 hours.
Marina Bay Sands Skypark
Take the lift to the observation deck for Singapore's best panoramic view. Book tickets online in advance. Allow 1 hour.
Lau Pa Sat Festival Market
One of Singapore's most beloved hawker centres. A short walk from Marina Bay MRT. Budget S$8–12 for a full meal.
Little India & Kampong Glam
Two of Singapore's most atmospheric heritage districts, side by side. Mustafa Centre, Sultan Mosque, and Arab Street.
Singapore Botanic Gardens
UNESCO World Heritage Site. Free entry to main gardens. The National Orchid Garden charges a small fee. Bring sunscreen.
Gardens by the Bay Night Show
The free Supertree light show runs at 7:45pm and 8:45pm nightly. Pair it with dinner at the hawker stalls nearby.
Stay Near Changi or City
YOTEL or Crowne Plaza for airport convenience. For the city, JW Marriott South Beach near Marina Bay is hard to beat.
Getting Around
Navigating Singapore by MRT
The MRT is Singapore's metro — clean, air-conditioned, and extraordinarily reliable. From Changi Airport, take the East-West Line (Green) directly into the city. The system is bilingual (English throughout) and fully mapped on Google Maps.
Buy an EZ-Link card (S$10 deposit + S$5 credit) at the customer service counter in the airport arrival hall. It works on MRT, buses, and some taxis. Alternatively, contactless Mastercard/Visa works on all MRT gates.

MRT runs 5:30am–midnight daily. Last train from City Hall back to Changi: check the real-time board. Budget taxis (Grab) run 24/7 if you miss the last train — around S$18–25 to the airport.

Best Food Stops on a Singapore Layover
Singapore has one of the world's most exciting food scenes, anchored by hawker centres — open-air food courts where Michelin-quality dishes cost S$4–8. Don't leave without eating at least one bowl of laksa or a plate of Hainanese chicken rice.
Maxwell Food Centre
Home of Tian Tian Chicken Rice — possibly Singapore's most famous dish. Near Chinatown MRT. Open from 10am daily.
Lau Pa Sat
A Victorian cast-iron market turned hawker centre. Don't miss the satay stalls on Boon Tat Street in the evenings.
Old Airport Road Food Centre
A local favourite just one MRT stop from Changi. Hokkien mee, carrot cake, and char kway teow at legendary stalls.
Jewel Changi Airport
Over 280 shops and restaurants across 5 levels. Perfect if you want quality food without leaving the airport precinct.

Practical Tips for Your Singapore Stopover
Leave Time for Re-entry
Allow at least 90 minutes from the city to clear immigration and reach your departure gate. 2 hours is safer.
Luggage Storage at Changi
Each terminal has luggage storage near the arrival halls. Rates start at S$5/bag for 4 hours — book online for a discount.
Stay Hydrated, Dress Light
Singapore is equatorial — heat and humidity are constant. Carry a water bottle and wear moisture-wicking fabrics.
Cash vs. Cards
Hawker centres accept cash (SGD) only. ATMs in every terminal give fair rates. Carry S$30–50 for a full half-day out.
SIM Card at Changi
